The UK's EU referendum - Tears, fears and David's resignation

A referendum was held in UK on Thursday, June 23, voting whether to leave or remain in the European Union bloc.

As over 52 percent of the Britons voted to 'leave' EU on Thursday.

Leave won the referendum, while UK become the first European country to leave the European Union bloc.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, who was against Brexit, announced his resignation on Friday following the Brexit win, before he formally steps down in October.

UK markets shuddered following the Brexit vote and pound sterling plunged down to 31-year low falling by 2-percent.

That left UK with two years to negotiate terms of exit from the EU bloc. As Brexit will greatly affect UK's political stability, economy, immigration policy and pound sterling market.

It is to be mentioned here that UK joined EU in 1973.

There are 28 countries within the European Union including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
