The tragic incident took place just two days after the kidnapping of a top provincial judge.
Reports
According to reports, two unknown target killers on a motorbike followed him when he left his house to attend Aftaar transmission and shot him from the front of his car in Liaquatabad area of Karachi.
Unknown killers shot 5 bullets of 30 bore pistols, which hit his head, face and legs. The bullet to the head took his life at the spot before being rushed to the nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Five 30-bore bullets' casings recovered from the spot have been sent for further forensic investigations, said police officials.
Chief Minister of Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has taken the notice of the sad incident and has ordered the IG Sindh to submit immediate report on the assassination.
The CM has also suspended DSP Liquatabad and SHO Liquatabad after the incident.
While DIG Sindh said that, "We're searching the whole area thoroughly and will arrest the murderers using all of our resources as soon as possible."
Confirmation
Amjad Sabri's death was confirmed by Additional police surgeon Dr Rohina Hasan. Qawwal was shot three times (twice in the head and once in the leg), said local police sources. His demise was later confirmed by the Senior Director Health Services of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital upon arrival.
Condolences and MQM's three days mourning
People all around the world reacted to this tragic loss and paid their condolences and tribute to the deceased legend.
Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef along with politicians all around the country condemned the attack and the loss country suffered.
MQM has announced three days mourning on the tragic loss. MQM will halt all of its political activities for the three days to come, said senior MQM leader Farooq Sattar.
Celebrities, general public from all sectors has also condemned the shameful act and the great loss to the country.
TTP claims responsibility - Death threats
While TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group has accepted responsibility for the attack on the renowned Qawwal, said Qari Saifullah Mehsud - spokesperson for the TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group.
Amjad Sabri was receiving death threats from the past few months.
Chairman of Sindh Censor Board Fakhr-e-Alam has confirmed in his tweet that Amjad Sabri had requested for his security earlier, but the home department did not pay attention on the request.
However, an official from the home department said that the department had not received any kind of application regarding security threats and security request from the deceased Qawwal.
Sabri's Legacy
Amjad Fareed Sabri, 45, nephew of Maqbool Sabri - qawwali icon - formed a renowned qawwali group in mid-50s period along with Maqbool Sabri (1956 – 2011) and Ghulam Fareed Sabri (1956 – 1994).
Almost every rendition and Aarifana Kalam (mystic poetry) by the group became a tremendous success including all time big hits like Bhar Do Jholi Meri and Tajdar-e-Haram.
He has also worked in Bollywood to give industry a mystic touch with excellence.
Amjad Sabri was keeping his family's tradition more than alive and was one of the most popular qawwali icon in the world.
